University-Level Prospectus | HIGHER & DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS

An apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme which has been designed by employers in the sector. It allows you to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills required for your immediate job and future career. The required knowledge and skills are acquired through a mixture of learning in the workplace and off-the-job training.

Higher and degree apprenticeships are available at Petroc at Levels 4 and 5. They combine work with study and may include a work-based, academic or combined qualification relevant to the industry. Levels 4 and 5 are equivalent to a HNC/Diploma or a Foundation Degree, Level 6 is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and Level 7 is equivalent to a Master’s Degree.

Higher and degree apprenticeships were introduced to provide employers with the high-level skills most critical for growth. Developed by employers for employers, higher and degree apprenticeships enable businesses to train more of their employees in the high-level industry-specific skills that are critical for growth in the UK and internationally.

"My employer, ND Precision Products, gave me the opportunity to further my education. I had already completed my A-levels, and, after discussion with Petroc, it was decided that it would be suitable for me to pursue a Higher Education course.

I enjoyed the range of engaging teachers and guest speakers and my highlight so far has been exceeding my expectations in the results I achieved.

Next steps for me are to continue working for ND Precision Products whilst studying a Level 6 apprenticeship with Petroc."
