ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION: DIPLOMA IN TEACHING – SCIENCE ROUTE


FTB253 1 YEAR, FULL-TIME (3 DAYS PER WEEK)


This Access to HE Teaching Diploma course is aimed at those who are interested in a teaching career. You will follow a Science based route, studying subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Psychology or Mathematics.


Your classes will be engaging and enable you to be involved and assessed by a range of methods including presentations, reports, lab work and short in-class exams.


You will need to organise your own relevant teaching experience in a school to take place during the January to February half term (this is a mandatory aspect of the Teaching Diplomas); you may also need to obtain a Disclo- sure & Barring Services (DBS) check in order to carry out your placement.


PROGRESSION


This Diploma leads to degree courses in teaching as well as other degrees, for example, mathematics, chemistry, science and human biosciences.


ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION: DIPLOMA IN UNDERSTANDING CHILD DEVELOPMENT


FTB348 1 YEAR, FULL-TIME (3 DAYS PER WEEK)


On this full-time course, you will study a wide range of childcare related subjects including children's development, safeguarding children and becoming a reflective practitioner, which will offer you a route onto a variety of early years related degree programmes. Modules are delivered by experienced staff with detailed curriculum knowledge.


PROGRESSION


The Early Years sector is a hugely rewarding and exciting field to work in - it is a diverse area and holds multiple career pathways for your future. Students develop skills and knowledge which are applicable to a range of occupations. This course is a Level 3 programme which enables you to progress on to a Foundation Degree or full Honours Degree at Petroc, awarded by Plymouth University, or to a BA or BSc programme at any UK university in subjects including early years practice, teaching & learning and early childhood studies.
