tigenerational family-owned company that has been active with ACCA local, state, and national chapters for around 30 years. Third- generation owner Justin Lauten is just as com- mitted to a message of safety as his father and grandfather were. “I’m sure everyone has had safety scares or

accidents that remind them how important a consistent and credible safety program is, but getting it to soak into the team’s behavior and routine is the hard part,” said Justin, of his team of 45 employees and fleet of 25 vehicles. To tackle this challenge, Total Air & Heat

hosts monthly departmental safety meetings tailored to specific work groups. Justin also has his employees share their experiences at meet- ings to create a “show and tell” of best and worst practices in the field. “We rely heavily on mySHIELD® from Feder-

in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is growing rapidly, leading to more vehicles on the road. “Our team is having to stay vigilant and

focus more than ever,” he said, emphasizing the importance of in-cab technologies and safety features to help keep his drivers safe. “Our agent, Chris Manning, is good at holding me accountable to review safe driving topics in our mySHIELD portal.” They also have a safety officer to manage

their safety program and handle ensuring they have the correct Personal Protective Equip- ment (PPE), consistent uniform compliance, and engagement in training. “It’s been a game changer for us,” he added. “Total Air & Heat understands that hiring the

best people is important in order to meet their work standards. Everyone — from technicians to sales staff — has extensive HVAC experience, which helps to create a positive working environ- ment that values risk management and safety,” said Patrick Cunningham, national account exec- utive at Federated Insurance. “Their commitment to day-to-day safety for their employees, along with providing excellent customer service, helps them stand out in their industry.” When it comes to delivering a message of

safety, Justin is clear on one thing right from the start: “Communicate the things that are most important repeatedly and consistently if you want to keep them on your team’s mind.” Since 2009, Federated has been proud to

be ACCA’s exclusive recommended partner for their members’ insurance and risk manage- ment needs. For more information about ACCA and this award, reach out to Patrick Cunning- ham, Federated’s National Account Executive, at pjcunningham@fedins.com.
