A Commentary on Positive Communication

A long time ago, early in my tenure as a condominium/community association manager, I was struck by the fact that there is just something about an association board of directors’ meeting that seems to give license to observers and participants to verbalize things that they would never ever say in any other social setting. Pondering why this seems to happen with regularity, I concluded that it more than likely is because community association administrators (both board members and managers) have some control over two of the most valuable assets of their constituents. Namely, finances by virtue of the fact that dues are being collected and people’s homes by virtue of the governing documents.

[ Some of the comments I’ve heard over the years truly are rude, crude and socially unacceptable. 20 | COMMON INTEREST® A Publication of CAI-Illinois Chapter ]
