But some reasons for serving are also mostly altruistic in the sense that service can and should be done for the benefit of others. We can serve to say thank you – to return some small part of what we have already received. This is the “pay it forward” person that many of us want to become. Giving our time and energy to serve others also allows us to move from a “consumption” mentality (what’s in it for me) to a “contribution” mentality (together we are better). When we serve in this manner we become instru- ments of a greater order and the results of our work
important enough to take time out of a busy sched- ule to prepare and attend a Board meeting if you are a Director. Work that needs to be done and will re- sult in something better. Work that you would spend serve ourselves, you see. When you give, you actually receive.
