A Guide to Cold Enamelling
1 PREPARATION You will need • resin • Hardener • Mixing cup • Mixing stick • scales
2 MIXING RATIO – 2 : 1 by weight important, accuracy is vital. As much as 2% out could affect the finish and cause soft spots.
3 HOW TO MIX • place the cup on the scales. • pour the amount of resin you want into the cup (may include the colour paste).
• pour the hardener into the cup (half the weight of the resin).
• Using a broad spatula, stir carefully until fully mixed. Mix firmly but not briskly.
• Apply enamel to the surface. Order by 6pm* for same day despatch
4 CLEAN ENVIRONMENT: dust particles or the odd hair will seriously affect the piece.
5 WARMING: Generally room temperature is ok for curing.
6 APPLICATION resins generally will stop flowing at the edge of whatever you are applying them to. if you are applying them to jewellery, a small upstand will help to keep the resin in place.
7 YOUR WELL BEING Always use an apron, lab coat or similar to protect your clothes. Use a good skin protection cream such as ArreTiL. resin will come off easily with a safe hand cleaner such as ressOLVe .
