Jade is made up of two varieties, Jadeite and nephrite. It can occur in a range of earthy colours. In the far east, Jade is prized over precious Gemstones such as Corundum and Diamond.

Although Jade is a tough material, it is not usually faceted. It is preferred cut in cabochons and beads, or used for carving. Even though Jade is very durable, any exposure to heat or chemicals may remove or alter certain treatments, so be wary when soldering or polishing Jade jewellery.
