The power of continuous professional development and the acceleration of business results through L&D, is a top priority for the company. “Kerry has an ambitious collaborative culture. We want our people to contribute fully in our shared success, so constant improvement is key. It’s about pace and agility, taking customer challenges and turning theminto opportunities,” says Mike.

Continual learning ismodelled fromthe top down - with a CIMA qualification behind him, Mike completed a professional certificate in business coaching in 2014. “Career framework is very important at Kerry– we want everyone to realise their potential and to provide a clear example of what they can achieve. With that inmind, we closely adhere to the 70:20:10 model. Functional training is central. We are in the early stages of developing what we’re calling the next generation of HR, where we place the customer at the centre of the process.

The idea for the ‘Next Generation of HR’ programme was first discussed in the summer of 2018 and the first formal steps to establishing it began in September, with concrete planning initiated by December. Mike works with his counterparts globally to shape the L&D agenda and has surrounded himself with an experienced teamto help deliver training as diverse as forklift/health and safety/manual handling training, to leader andmanager development. The formal learning provided at the Kerry Group is both functional and developmental - the focus is on the employee growing their career and delivering value to the customer.

“Talent identification and development are very important,” says Mike. “Employeesmust have the right toolkits for the job. Froman L&D perspective, Imust know we can deliver the goals that are set. To run the group effectively, I have to understand the tapestry ofmany departments working together, and I have to weave it all together. I want everything that happens inmy department to have a positive effect.”

One of Mike’s required core competencies is translating global management directives into regional deliverables.
