AWD WILL ALWAYS DELIVER

MEMBERSHIP VALUE

WITH THE FINANCIAL YEAR ENDING, April has been a busy month for many members; but my recollection of April 2013 will be that of the 40th

celebratory conference held to coincide with the AWD’s AGM in London. With 100 attendees across the

weekend, this was one of the milestones of the AWD’s history. As your new Chairman, I would like to thank all of those who were able to make the AGM and/or conference and to extend my appreciation to all of the AWD membership for their support in electing your National Executive. I would like to thank Adrian for the work, leadership and vision he has shown whilst holding the position of the previous Chairman for the preceding two years and to acknowledge the progression of the Association under his stewardship. To create legacies such as the Buyer’s Guide – dedicated to users across the welding sector – is certainly an initiative, which is unique, and is a legitimate benefit of AWD membership. So what about the next two years? I used the AGM as a platform to launch the S.M.A.R.T. initiative; this is about ensuring that the Association delivers an offering, which is specific to you: tangible benefits, which directly add value to you or the organisation you are associated with. I believe if we continue to build on these benefits and to grow, then the AWD will always deliver membership value and continue to develop so that members can reap these benefits further. In an ever-increasing commercialised world, the AWD will continue to work

across industry to promote safe and value-added products and services for users. Products which are appropriate and which can be trusted are surely a prerequisite for not only a successful welding industry, but for a successful economy. As members I would encourage you to use the AWD to be a representative voice across the industry to ensure we promote welding as an essential part of this economy. Finally, to complete what I hope is a S.M.A.R.T. approach, we need to support training. If we already know it, then it is revision and if we don’t, it is education, but regardless I am sure you will agree that training underpins success. I would like to end by asking that we work together – please get to

know your Regional Officers (see page 17 for details), much of the above vision will be delivered through the dedicated work at a local level. Finally, I wish to acknowledge the work of Martin Clark, Editor, for

the excellent work in pulling together the Welding World magazine. I am truly saddened that Martin is leaving us but am delighted for him as he commences his retirement, proud that he leaves behind a great and ever evolving publication.

I hope you enjoy this edition.

Phil Tranter AWD National Chairman
