Power station news The first new UK nuclear power station construction since 1995 has been given the go ahead at Hinkley Point, by EDF. It is a €14B investment and will supply seven per cent of Britain’s electricity. There will be many opportunities for the welding industry including AWD members, throughout the supply
chain.Much of the involvement will involve coded work and full traceability to nuclear standards and advanced construction processes and materials. A new nuclear power station is now also being built in the USA. There will be shared technology and QA standards.
Our society is constantly
inventingnew socio-political ideas based on warming, carbon, safety, green…
HotelWeb Links Some hotels now charge high costs forWi-Fi connection. It is worthwhile bypassing this inconvenience by using a mobile phone provider’s dongle. Simply plugged into the laptop’s USB socket it provides universal web access. It thus becomes a mobile-friendly web.
Professor Peter Cochrane Some time ago, AWD had the sheer pleasure of listening to the inspiring Professor Peter Cochrane of BT’s R&D at an AGM weekend function. Readers can still monitor this outstanding person for encouragement, new insight and inspiration at
www.petercochrane.org.uk – put it in your favourites for when you need a booster.
New Concepts Our society is constantly inventing new socio-political ideas based on warming, carbon, safety, green, organo – and a myriad of others. One that can be an issue is the over-used term “fair-trade”. It implies all else is unfair trade and therefore bad. The issue is to ensure that we in AWD all provide first class, professional and incomparable service and products.
Tablets Everyone is now taking tablets. These convenient and mighty pocket sized, very fast, instantly on, computers now account for more than 25 per cent of PC sales. Desktops are declining in interest. Use of tablet devices can explain why data storage back-up is attracted to Cloud storage. The tablet has driven

the touch-screen technology and helped to lessen mouse and keyboard usage. Technology data is carried in the pocket and many more people are well informed, as long as there are still helpful and knowledgeable people to link with. The countless supply of Apps enhances the technology and its appeal.
Welding support There is a growing number of very good and helpful welding advisory websites now available.

Your business website Readers would be surprised just how many websites become dated and uninformative. It is always necessary to keep the asset fresh, contemporary, competitive and attractive. It’s important to regularly check one’s own website, to be technically accurate and steer clear of plagiarism as well. Some websites from the third world nations contain inaccurate information clearly copied but not understood.
Web usage trends in the UK Of the 33-million UK users in 2012, the pattern of use is: 1. E-mail 2. Researching goods, services and buying 3. Reading the news 4. Social networking, predominantly younger web users and rarely used by over 65’s
5. More than 30 per cent of web users prefer Web-phone links.
The retail industry is subject to big changes in the buying alternatives and the High Street is struggling. Business retailing is under similar pressures – only 16 per cent of UK people do not use the web, so it is at saturation.
Help with computing A useful and easy to use computing resource is found at
