GREEN SHOOTS OF GROWTH Editorial Comment
THE SECOND UK ESTIMATE OF GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) estimated that the UK economy grew by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2013. The expansion in Q3 was broad-based, with growth in both consumption and investment strengthening. GDP has now risen by 1.8% during the latest three quarters. A survey of 446 SME manufacturers to assess awareness levels of funding options available to them confirm the widely accepted view that SMEs in the UK are not aware of some of the schemes that are run by the UK Government. The survey focused on 18 key manufacturing support schemes introduced to help businesses to grow. Are you aware of some of the UK government funding options available for your business? See
www.gambica.org.uk/ManufacturingSupport for manufacturing support scheme information. AWD would like to pay tribute to Jim Gaffney, the founder of Gaffney Gases (a BOC company) and a past AWD Chairman, who sadly passed away recently. His passing is a great loss to the welding industry.
