Scandi adventure NORTH TO SOUTH SWEDEN • UP TO 14 DAYS
If wide-screen landscapes, vast forests and the Arctic Circle feature on a traveler’s wishlist, the Inlandsbanan line might be the best bet. This Scandinavian odyssey showcases Sweden’s backcountry as the 745-mile route takes travelers through inland regions from Gällivare through Jokkmokk, Vilhelmina and Östersund, before finally arriving in Mora. Discover Sami culture in the Ájtte Museum in Jokkmokk and see the Swedish sights as the train makes its way from the north to the south of the country. Travelers
can buy a 14-day pass for the line, allowing them to step off and get involved in the hiking and kayaking opportunities along the route. There are also package holiday options available that have ready-made itineraries with hotel stays and sightseeing excursions. The Wilderness Train route, for example, pairs the Inlandsbanan with two other iconic train routes to take visitors on a seven-day journey from Stockholm to the northern and Arctic regions of Sweden onboard museum-class carriages dating back to the 1940s, 50s and 60s.
