THE ART OF GUNMAKING ADVERTISEMENT SET YOUR SIGHTS ON IAN COLEY

THE LOWER HIGH street of Cheltenham — any local will tell you that there are more salubrious areas of this fabulous regency town. Mayfair this is not. But from humble high street beginnings in 1970, Ian Coley Sporting has grown from a small shop into a unique destination — one of the fi nest purpose-built shooting establishments in the UK. Fast forward forty or so years, and Ian Coley

Sporting is now based in 50 acres of beautiful Cotswold countryside, just ten minutes from Cheltenham with access to the M5, and a far cry from the high street. Easily accessible from London, as well as regional centres such as Oxford and Bristol, visitors will discover an oasis of excellence — an immaculate shooting ground with an award-winning gun shop and sporting agency offi ces on-site. This incredible growth is a change mirrored

in the career of Ian Coley himself, who started life in the shooting world as a Gloucestershire gamekeeper, but went on to play an integral part in Great Britain’s success on the world sporting stage. Having represented the country on over two hundred occasions since he fi rst shot for Great Britain in 1971 — either as a shooter, coach or team manager — Ian was awarded an MBE for his services to the sport. This dedication and attention to detail can be

seen in the business. The ground was awarded Premier Plus status by the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association in recognition of its superb facilities and overall shooting experience. It’s one of only twenty or so grounds across the UK to be awarded this status. Set in a mixture of woodland and

landscaped grounds with gravel walkways, many of which are covered, the ever-expanding layout consists of 24 stands, each with a minimum of two traps. There are also three high towers ranging up to 120ft, down-the-line layout, grouse butt and more. With starter stands as well as technical targets,

there’s something to suit everyone, from nervous beginners to Olympic hopefuls and experienced game shots. It’s at this latter end of the spectrum where the coaches at Ian Coley Sporting really begin to shine, with world-class clay and game shooting tuition and gun fi tting expertise. There are also three full-time gun fi tters available that are APSI (The Association of Professional Shooting Instructors) qualifi ed. The ground also plays host to numerous

corporate and charity events, and if you are a licence holder, is available for ‘pay & play’ practice with self-timer release traps or to try any of the wide range of second hand or demo guns the shop has available. From premium shotguns that can’t be found

anywhere else in the world, to guns costing just a few hundred pounds, the hallmark of the Ian Coley Gun Shop is choice. Looking for a pair of Beretta 687 EELLs? There are eight pairs to choose from, something that sets Ian Coley Sporting apart from the competition. Combined with a shop team that together, have over 100 years of shooting experience, 12 GB and England caps, two major championships and over 100 other titles, and it’s little surprise that Ian Coley Sporting was recently voted the nation’s favourite gun shop by readers of Clay Shooting
