PAID CONTENT FOR SUMMIT STOKE
Summit Stoke QUITO, ECUADOR
Before dawn, headlamps trace a path towards the glacier as the Andes slowly awaken. Here, the Apus — the mountain spirits of Andean tradition — are woven into stories, ceremonies and a worldview where people and nature are deeply connected. To climb here is not simply to reach a summit, but to enter the mountains with humility and respect. Summit Stoke is a Danish-Ecuadorian
mountaineering operator creating intimate expeditions in the Andes for travellers seeking far more than a guided climb. Its philosophy is rooted in ethical climbing: respecting the mountains, preserving Andean traditions and ensuring every expedition creates value beyond the journey itself. Each expedition is part mountaineering course,
part high-altitude adventure. Guests learn essential alpine skills before putting them into practice on real mountains. Beginner departures welcome fit travellers with no previous climbing experience, while intermediate and advanced itineraries venture into more technical terrain. Yoga and breathwork are woven into the experience, helping improve focus, body awareness and movement.
Both co-ed and women-only departures are
available, with the latter forming a core part of Summit Stoke’s identity. They provide a supportive environment for women entering or progressing in a sport where female participation remains low. That commitment extends through the Summit Stoke Foundation, an Ecuadorian NGO helping local Andean women pursue careers in mountaineering through training and guiding. Traditional ceremonies, experienced local
guides, private logistics and carefully selected accommodation complete the experience. Thanks to the accessibility of Ecuador’s mountains, demanding days on the peaks are often followed by the comfort of a premium lodge. In the remote Andes, the connection between
earth and sky, human and mountain, cannot be fully explained. It can only be felt. Summit Stoke invites guests to enter that world not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. Many arrive searching for a summit, but return with new skills, greater confidence and the realisation that they were never separate from nature at all.
