Diabetes affects over 3.9 million people in the UK. Living with diabetes is a 24-hour job, seven days a week without a day off
and requires insulin injections from day one. Insulin is most commonly injected four times a day and is adjusted depending on what’s eaten. People with diabetes can live full and active lives and shouldn’t limit what they do or eat. Type 2 diabetes is responsible for

approximately 90% of all diabetes in the UK and is due to insulin resistance often brought about by weight, age and genetics. Tere’s usually plenty of insulin available in the body, but it’s not very effective. Treatments are directed at making a person’s own insulin work harder. Te best treat- ments for type 2 diabetes are related to weight loss and lifestyle changes, but there are a variety of medications available. Type 2 diabetes is usually progressive and the majority of people need insulin treatment within eight to 10 years of diagnosis.
