The World Champions of GB Climbing and Paraclimbing
Huge success for our GB athletes at the Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships 2021
H
amish McArthur takes home the bronze medal at his first Senior World Championships after becoming the double World Champ in the Junior Boulder and Lead in the same year, meanwhile we saw fantastic results from the GB
Paraclimbing Team at the IFSC Paraclimbing World Championships 2021 in Moscow, Russia, with six medals including two World Champions. It’s been one of the best GB Climbing and GB Paraclimbing performances at the senior IFSC World Championships that we have ever witnessed, the GB Paraclimbing Team won six medals including Abbie Robinson and Matthew Phillips reclaiming their world titles for the third consecutive time, while GB Climbing had multiple athletes making semi-finals, many more coming incredibly close, and of course the bronze medal in Lead for Hamish McArthur.

t the recent competition in Los Angeles, paraclimber Jesse Dufton added to his success this year by taking
home another bronze medal in the B1 (blind) lead category after also winning bronze at the World Championships. When asked about paraclimbing becoming an Olympic sport, Jesse said: “The IFSC is looking towards Los Angeles in 2028 as there is no chance of
paraclimbing being part of Paris 2024. This is one of the reasons I was keen to attend the World Cup there this time as this was a demonstration event for that. But I think I would be keen to be involved. If I could raise the awareness of paraclimbing then that opens the doors to a lot of people to get involved in. And while it’s not clear cut to me if I am keen or not, I think that factor would make it a yes. I’m 36 now. By LA I will 43. I’d like to think I won’t be past it by then. Just look at Koba. Maybe he’ll still be competing then too?”
