AMIDST World Cup mania and the 250th anniversary of the United States celebrations, travellers seem to be steering stateside as we enter the latter half of 2026. The 2026 FIFA World Cup has dominated the headlines this year, as football fans don the jersey of their chosen team in anticipation of the global spectacle. Taking over the Americas, fans have flocked to the
16 host cities of the FIFA World Cup, which include Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/ New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
Recent years have demonstrated how live events are shifting the landscape of tourism; whether it be a sporting event, convention, or a music festival, travellers are opting to amplify their experience by combining their hobbies and interests with the thrill of international travel. This trend has been especially prevalent throughout the recent FIFA World Cup
celebrations, as fans switch from the comfort of their local fanzone to follow their favourite team to the host country, seeking atmosphere, revelry, and most importantly, a memorable experience. At the beginning of the year, research conducted by the WTTC indicated that the FIFA World Cup was expected to bring around 1.24 million international visitors to the United States over the course of the tournament period. But has this come to be?
