Dublin Airport Aims to Source 30% of Electricity from Solar Power by 2030

July/August 2026

DUBLIN Airport has announced a significant step in its renewable energy goals as the airport targets 30% of its electricity needs being generated onsite through solar farms by 2030.

The solar panels are a clean renewable energy source that emit no greenhouse gases or pollutants.

Once the farm is operational, it is expected to generate 17% of Dublin Airport’s annual consumption.

This will more than double the airport’s current renewable solar energy output from 12% in 2025 to close to 30% by mid-2028, significantly ahead of its current target of 20% by 2030. Welcoming the development, Minister for

e g

Transport Darragh O’Brien, said: “It is very encouraging to see daa continue to explore and invest in renewable energy solutions. I was delighted to officially open the airport’s first solar farm last year and to see it generate 12% of their electricity needs in 2025. Subject to planning permission, Phase 2 will catapult the contribution of

Aer Lingus Announce Partnership with Boxing Icon Katie Taylor

FOLLOWING Aer Lingus’ recent 90th anniversary celebrations, the airline has announced its partnership with its new brand ambassador, Irish boxer, Katie Taylor. Katie Taylor has achieved one of boxing’s rarest distinctions: two-weight undisputed world champion, holding titles at lightweight and super-lightweight. Her record-breaking fights have transformed the global viewership of women’s boxing. The partnership brings together a shared Irish spirit and global ambitions, with each proudly flying the Irish flag on the world stage. The airline will also fly the boxer home on September 5th. Aer Lingus plays a key role in Ireland’s connection to the world, carrying passengers on over 100 routes from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Ireland West Airport to Europe, the UK and North America. Susanne Carberry,

Chief Customer

Officer, Aer Lingus: “We are immensely proud to be partnering with Katie Taylor. Katie is the epitome of belief and determination.

“She changed the sport of boxing globally and built an audience of millions for women’s boxing that simply didn’t exist before her. That’s not just a remarkable sporting career – that’s inspiration to us all that change, and progress, is possible. “That spirit is one I recognise in Aer Lingus. It’s the spirit that put a small aircraft on a runway in Baldonnel in 1936 with five passengers and the belief that Irish aviation could be something – and since then, we’ve been proudly flying Ireland to the world and bringing people home for 90 years.”

Also speaking about the announcement, Katie Taylor added: “Aer Lingus has been a key part of my

life, but especially since I moved to the USA. Their famous shamrock has been a true symbol of home for me, and my family and friends have been able to visit me regularly thanks to this airline. This is an extremely important announcement for me, and to be partnering with such an iconic brand that represents everything about home for me is truly something special.”

renewable solar energy to 30% by mid-2028, helping Dublin Airport meet its commitment to reduce its emissions by 51% by 2030.” Andrea Carroll, daa Group Director

of Sustainability, said: “Dublin Airport was officially recognised

last month as a Level 4+ airport in the internationally recognised Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, placing it among the top 13% of airports globally for carbon management. This marks a significant step forward in daa’s sustainability journey, with Phase 2 of the solar farm further evidence of our determination.” Vincent Harrison, daa Chief Commercial

and Development Officer, said: “This significant expansion of our solar energy infrastructure is a win-win for the airport. It increases the sustainability of our terminals and airfield operations, while also reducing our reliance on the national electricity grid. Continuing to invest in modernising Dublin Airport and making our operations as energy efficient as possible is a key part of our €2 billion Infrastructure Application to set Dublin Airport up for the future.”
