THE final call has been announced for 2023, and a brand new year of travel is steadily approaching. In 2023, the focus of travel shifted from the removal of travel restrictions and post-covid recovery to sustaining and elevating post-pandemic growth. A shift which has paved the way for new routes and expansion, a result that benefits both the Northern Irish traveller and the travel trade industry as a whole. Studies
conducted by ABTA reveal
that 84% of people decided to book a holiday in 2023, an 8% percent increase on figures recorded from 2022. 52% of these holiday-makers opted to travel abroad this year, a rise of 7% compared with data collected in 2022. A clear indication of the public’s strong desire to travel - and the returning confidence in outbound travel in comparison with previous years figures. 2023 was a year of major growth for travel, with the expansion of new routes, new destinations, and most importantly,
new bookings!
Connectivity for 2023 was on the up as new routes from Belfast were announced by most major airlines. 2023 saw Jet2Holidays become the UK’s
largest tour operator, and the package holiday provider shows no sign of slowing down as three new summer destinations are set to take off from Belfast International in
2024. Northern Irish holidaymakers can set their sights on Bodrum, Malta and Formentera to get their sunshine fix. easyJet celebrated twenty-five years at
Belfast International Airport and also marked the beginning of four new routes from the airport. New routes included Rhodes, Southampton, Hurghada and Antalya.
