Welcome to the 15th World Conference by Joseph E. Fritz, ICI Executive Director

portrays, have been nearly seven years in the making, but not by design.

I Originally planned for 2020, the location of the 15th

World Conference on Investment Casting was announced to cheers at its predecessor event held in Paris in 2016. We were bringing the World Conference to Disneyland. Since that time, contests were held to design an event

souvenir, abstracts were solicited and reviewed by an international panel, a keynote speaker was selected, the agenda was prepared and the ICI was well positioned to kick off the 2020 event. We were primed and ready to go, nothing could stop us, or so we thought. Then Murphy’s Law struck with a vengeance, twice!

Confronted with a global pandemic, the event was postponed to 2021, and then again to 2022. Each time with new abstract solicitations, presentations and agenda, not to mention all the work that goes into making this happen. All along the way we were confronted by challenges, but that is now behind us.

So here we are, counting the days, hours and minutes to the Opening Ceremony of the 15th WCIC, which will take place at our Welcome Reception, Sunday evening, August

22 ❘ August 2022 ®

t is a much-awaited honor and privilege to finally have the opportunity to welcome you to the World Conference Issue of INCAST Magazine. This issue, and the event it

21st, on the Adventure Lawn of the Disneyland Hotel. To afford more time for technical papers, the decision was made to conduct this year’s award ceremony at the reception. Though this may seem somewhat unconventional, it does make it easy to congratulate the award recipients as we will be in a social setting. The first two days of the Technical Conference will run from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and will be immediately followed by the Equipment Expo, running from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. On the last day of the Expo, the ICI will host a second reception on the Adventure Lawn. Wednesday will be final day of the conference. It will run from 8:00 a.m. until the Closing Ceremony at midday, where the Japanese Foundry Society will announce the venue for the 16th World Conference. There are also a number of add-on events planned, including a guest tour of San Juan de Capistrano Mission, followed by lunch, a Gala Banquet on Wednesday evening in the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion followed by a fireworks display (weather permitting) and facility tours hosted by FS Precision Tech and Kittyhawk Inc. Though the road that brought us here was twisted and

fraught with obstacles, it was a good road, because it brought us back together again as a global industry; and if COVID taught us one thing, it proved that “It is a small world after all!”
