DESTINATIONS PROPOSALS | WEDDINGS & HONEYMOONS of faithLeap Inspired by the old leap-year tradition of women

getting down on one knee, Laura French lines up some of the best spots to pop the question

i travelweekly.co.uk

f you hadn’t clocked it yet, 2020 is a leap year, which means February 29 – the day women can traditionally propose to men, thanks to a strange deal supposedly struck by St Patrick in the fifth century – is looming close. Fortunately we’re no longer in the middle ages, and our power to propose is no longer restricted to one day every four years – but there’s no reason you can’t take inspiration from this old convention for clients thinking about popping the question to their other half (whenever they fancy it, we might add). So where should you look when it comes to planning the perfect proposal trip?

THE THRILLSEEKER When it comes to global icons, few spots have the same prowess as Sydney Harbour Bridge, s o how about proposing right on top of it just as the sun rears its head? Rachel McMurdo, assistant product manager for Oceania at Gold Medal, suggests thrillseeking clients do exactly that, with an adrenaline-pumping BridgeClimb to the summit, where 360-degree views await. “Offering spectacular views over Sydney Harbour and beyond, a dawn climb would be the perfect time

to pop the question,” says McMurdo. “To complete the experience, the bridge staff will be more than happy to help with the planning of the proposal. It’s also possible

to have their wedding ceremony in this beautiful spot.” Book it: From £140 per person for the summit climb

(warning: there are 1,390 steps and several ladders, so clients need to be fairly fit). Gold Medal offers a nine-night trip to Sydney and the surrounding area from £2,459, including stays at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort & Spa and Novotel Pacific Manly Beach, including flights and car hire, departing February 24. goldmedal.co.uk
