AAT Kings creates Bushfire Relief tours in Australia

Samantha Mayling

AAT Kings is developing not-for- profit Bushfire Relief Giveback Experiences to help support communities affected by the recent bushfires in Australia. The day tours and short breaks

are available in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The experiences have been

developed with Australia’s #EmptyEsky campaign and local communities. AAT Kings will transport guests

and their empty cooler bags – what Australians call an “esky” – to visit markets, stores and cafes in communities affected by the fires. Guests can wander through

the towns, spend time with shopkeepers and fill their cooler bags by purchasing local products. Holidaymakers will also meet

locals who will tell them stories about the recovery process. Matthew Cameron-Smith,

managing director for AAT Kings, said: “We’ve worked with

travelweekly.co.uk

local businesses to bring much- needed benefit through the tourism economy directly back to restaurants, cafes, farmers’ markets and local stores, to help start providing immediate support to the regions that need it the most. “We are so privileged to be able

to take advantage of our experience and network to facilitate bringing as many visitors as we can back to the most-affected townships. We invite the UK travel industry to join us in supporting Australians to get back on their feet for the long term.” The first tour, the Bushfire

Recovery Giveback Experience: #EmptyEsky to Shoalhaven, departed from Sydney to Kangaroo Valley last week. The itinerary included morning

tea at a local cafe, Nowra Farmers’ Market and lunch with members of the community affected by the bushfires. It cost AU$110 (£65) on a not-for-profit basis. More trips and short breaks will

be announced this week. aatkings.com/bushfire-recovery
