Sorry, Sir, the last Pan Am flight has landed

I have a dilemma. I have just had an email from a gentleman wanting to travel to New York. He specifically requests to fly with either British Airways or Pan Am. How should I tell him Pan Am stopped flying in 1991?

“What people are looking for is a 24/7 travel agent online that anticipates all of their needs. Consumers are

leaning to businesses that offer them this.”

Good luck with your new travel venture, Ling

Story: New travel agency hopes to drive custom through PR stunts and video clips of movie plane crashes Welcome to the world of travel, Ling. You will find it will be a lot different from selling car rental. One tip for you: keep up with current affairs. Many destination countries keep moving the goalposts with their visa requirements, health advice, terror alerts and so on. Good luck with your new adventure. PATRICK DOYLE

Ryanair crew’s photo had a message to tell

Story: Sleeping crew photo was faked, says Ryanair The message still stands. Although the image was not real, it was simply there to ensure there was traction behind their message. CITIXEN

LETTER OF THE

TALK BACK WHAT YOU’RE SAYING THIS WEEK

EDITORIAL@ TRAVEL WEEKLY. CO.UK

WEEK Well done for speaking out, Alistair

Story: Trade raises fears ‘get-rich-quick groups threaten agents’ honour’ At last someone from the UK industry has spoken out about the potential damage being done by these multi-level marketing/pyramid-style schemes from the US. These ventures have tried to become part of the UK travel industry while

knowingly selling travel without Abta or Atol to unsuspecting clients. Well done, Alistair Rowland (pictured) for highlighting, at Abta’s Travel

Convention in Seville, the dangers of recruiting thousands of people with no travel experience by offering empty promises and not vetting them. Working in the industry is not only about selling holidays.

There is far more to it, and that is where a reputable travel agent will always know what to do. We all love this wonderful industry but it has changed so much over the past couple of decades, and our experience is paramount in dealing with anything that is thrown at us!
