Story: Thomas Cook boss buys £50,000 worth of shares How does this give confidence? If Peter Fankhauser’s salary last year was £1.8 million and he only spends £50k, it seems like a poor effort to show confidence.

ADRIAN DAY Travel Weekly welcomes a Thomas Cook response

Tui blame is misguided

Story: Tui Group survives ‘challenging year for operators’ I love the fact that blame for underperformance is laid at the door of events which happen every summer, including air traffic strikes, currency movement and the weather, rather than an outdated mainstream business model.

TIM WILLIAMSON Travel Weekly would welcome a reply from Tui

I attended Tipto’s exclusive Tailor Made Travel/Regal Travel event recently and wanted to

thank the whole team for a fantastic evening. I learnt so much from the suppliers that attended, and I’m delighted to say that, just a few days after the event, I was able to make a Cruise & Maritime Voyages booking worth almost £3,000 armed with the product information they had provided.

TWEETS THIS WEEK

Thanks, HAL/Seabourn

I’d like say a big thank you to all at HAL/Seabourn for including me on the recent fam to Singapore. This fabulous trip was well escorted by the lovely Dani, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Singapore than Suhail.

“It irritates me when you hear statements that take aviation as one. EasyJet is investing to reduce our

emissions. Not [all airlines are] the same.”

LETTER OF THE

WEEK

TALK BACK WHAT YOU’RE SAYING THIS WEEK

EDITORIAL@ TRAVEL WEEKLY. CO.UK

Airlines should tackle non-full flights

Isn’t it time airlines were seen to help in the fight against climate change by consolidating some of their flights? I flew back on Saturday from Alicante to Liverpool and on our Blue Air flight

there were just 23 passengers. The head stewardess told me there had been 33 passengers on the outbound flight that morning. I also heard that easyJet had just eight passengers on its flight on the same route that morning. I was a travel agent for 28 years and recall that years ago consolidating flights in quiet periods was the norm. Last Saturday, Ryanair, easyJet and Blue Air all flew from Liverpool to Alicante between 07.00 and 08.30, and returned the same day between 11.05 and 12.30. Surely in this day and age of saving the planet, and for huge cost savings, these six flights by three airlines could be consolidated into one each way, with airlines flying in turn? In a week, 42 flights could be scaled down to 14. PAUL KELLETT, formerly Brian Kellett Travel, Bangor Travel Weekly welcomes a reply from any of the airlines
