The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Airlines UK: APD, tax and other levies will only go up
Story: Airlines UK dubbed hypocritical over passenger levy calls Every politician appears to be promising to spend billions to buy votes, so anyone who expects taxes to be cut really is living in a dream world. The money has to come from somewhere, or politicians would have to break their promises, and we know they would never do that, so APD, corporation tax and probably anything else they can think of will be going only one way, and that won’t be down. In the great scheme of things, 50p to protect every customer of every airline, will be the least of the airlines’ worries in future. Alan Bowen
Aviation: Tech will grow
Story: Carbon offsetting criticised in BBC documentary You can understand why a programme like this gets made – it’s great TV. But in reality, we all love flying. The electric car started small with inefficient, expensive options, but has grown. So too will aviation technology. It will develop and needs this tension between ‘green’ and profit to push forward. Paul Bondsfield

#GMAtlantisFAM Slots: Gain from Cook
Story:
Jet2.com buys Thomas Cook slots at Birmingham, Stansted and Manchester What is the old saying, one man’s loss is another man’s gain? That’s certainly the case for Jet2 and Tui, making hay while the sun shines. As long as the travelling public gain, it is all to the good. Patrick Doyle
