Titan’s trends report shows rising interest in far-flung destinations

Far-flung and exotic destinations such as Uzbekistan, Borneo and Costa Rica are increasingly on holidaymakers’ radar, according to a trends report by escorted tour operator Titan Travel. Compiled using booking data and
feedback from in-house experts, travel journalists and Titan consumers, the second edition of the Travel Trends report also reveals growth in solo travel, multigenerational holidays and demand for sustainable travel. Te US retains its top spot in
Titan’s bookings league for 2020, while Canada has leapfrogged Italy into second place. Egypt has risen from 16th to 12th,
while Austria has soared to sixth, thanks to the Oberammergau Passion Play, which is staged every 10 years and is due to be performed in 2020. Andy Squirrell, managing

trends, despite consumer concerns about Brexit and the general election. Long-haul bookings were on the
rise and there was some “soſtness in Europe”, he noted. “People are still going on holiday
but booking long-haul instead of Europe. River cruises are holding up strongly,” he said. “Brexit is not so much of a

EXPANSION: Triangle Travel is expanding its high street agency network to five shops after signing a deal to take over Didcot-based John Allan Travel. John Allan, who intends to retire, has worked in the industry for 50 years, and owned the Oxfordshire shop for 29. Family-run Triangle Travel, a member of the Worldchoice consortium, has shops in Mortimer, Newbury and Pangbourne in Berkshire and Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Managing director Rob Kenton said John Allan Travel would be rebranded “in time”. Agents Penny Wesson and Jill Mangan, who have worked at the shop for 12 and seven years respectively, will continue in their roles. Kenton, left, is pictured with Allan.
