MSC to commence major brand push for wave period
M
SC Cruises is to launch a brand campaign to support the trade during the
peak wave sales period. Starting in January, the The Sea
At Its Most campaign will appear on TV, in newspapers, on the line’s digital platforms and on out-of-home displays. Music to accompany the
campaign has been created by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who has writen film scores for movies including Te Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Te Untouchables and Te Hateful Eight. MSC Cruises UK and Ireland
managing director Antonio Paradiso said the campaign would help agents to “present cruise in a different way” to their customers. “You are travel agents, so you
know the complexities of selling a cruise to customers,” he said. “Over the years, we have been challenging those misconceptions

We will present cruise in a different way and reduce all those questions as to what it is really about
and stereotypes about the cruise industry. We always focus on the word ‘cruise’ but we forget we are selling a holiday. “[Te campaign] will help present
cruise in a different way and reduce all those questions as to what it is really about.” Chief executive Gianni Onorato
outlined plans for the line to carry three million passengers in 2020 and hit 5.5 million by 2027, by when 12 more ships are expected to have been added to the MSC Cruises fleet, which currently stands at 17 vessels. “We will continue to build ships
and be as innovative and creative as we can,” said Onorato.
MSC Grandiosa is ‘one of the greenest ships in the world’
Te UK boss of MSC Cruises has hailed the line’s new vessel MSC Grandiosa as “one of the greenest ships in the world”. Te 6,300-passenger vessel has
a range of eco-friendly features including a catalytic reduction system to reduce noxious emissions by 90%, a ballast water-treatment system and anti-fouling paint on the hull to impede the growth of barnacles. A clean hull with no marine
organisms ensures beter fuel efficiency, said UK & Ireland managing director Antonio Paradiso. Earlier this month, the line
outlined plans to become the world’s first carbon-neutral major cruise line, from January 2020.
16 21 NOVEMBER 2019 Paradiso said: “Grandiosa has
the latest technology available, including the most-advanced water-treatment system, and we have reduced CO2 emissions by 29%, which makes it one of the greenest ships in the world.” Te line’s chief executive,
Gianni Onorato, said Grandiosa was “further proof” of the line’s sustainability efforts. “Our plan is to reduce carbon
emissions to zero,” he said. “From January 2020, MSC will
become the first cruise line that will become carbon neutral [by offseting emissions]. “We believe we are citizens of
this world and we are doing it for our kids and the future.”
