The country’s top-performing travel agents were honoured once again at this year’s lavish Agent Achievement Awards ceremony.
WINNERS’ WORDS
“I am so proud of what we have achieved and this award is for all the staff who work for Cruise118, I am speechless.” James Cole, managing director Cruise118: Winner: Best National Large Cruise Agency
“After winning this I feel like I could do anything in this industry, I am still so young so plan to do a lot in travel.” Beth Collins, Premier Travel Winner: Young Leisure Agent of the Year
“Winning this award is great for all the team who work so hard. They can see how well they’ve done, whether they’re based in Cheshire or Vancouver Island.” Adam Swift, director, Magic Breaks by World Travellers Winner:Website of the Year – Small Agency
“Spear Travels took a chance on me when travel was going through a tough time and since then we’ve bought a shop on the high street and brought it back to the 21st century. We are five ladies who know what we are talking about, offer great customer service and go the extra mile for our customers. The award is for all of us.” Kim Kent, Spear Travels Winner: Leisure Manager of the Year

Big winners on the night included Thomas Cook, Oasis Travel, Hays Travel, Premier Travel and Designer Travel, all of whom picked up two awards each. Three leading travel agency bosses were also
recognised for their service. Steve Byrne, chief executive of Travel Counsellors; Alistair Rowland, Midcounties Co-operative group general manager for specialist retail; and Jackie Steadman, director of TravelTime World, were presented with their awards at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel.
1 The AAAs are the biggest celebration of
the travel trade in the UK, with 850 people attending this year’s ceremony. Steadman set up her agency in Berkhamsted
23 years ago and has served as a regional council member on the Abta board and as an Advantage Travel Partnership board member. She said: “When I came into this industry it
was all ‘bricks and clicks’ and everyone talked about the demise of the agent. I always thought we would survive; agents just have to keep reinventing themselves. We are very resilient.” Rowland said: “I’m delighted, not just for me,
but for the team who have worked so hard to keep the Co-op brand strong over the past five and a half years.
