Amber list: Are the test procedures not enough?

Story: Health secretary insists ‘no travel to amber’ destinations on holiday Clients are wondering where they stand as usual. We get very little other than bleak humour from the farce that is Hancock’s Half Hour. He should make it clear whether his ‘advice’ has statutory force or not. If the amber testing and isolation procedures are adequate, then anyone travelling to an amber area should not pose a risk to anyone in the UK on their return, so why is Hancock saying people should not travel? Maybe he believes the amber testing and isolation procedures are inadequate? Or possibly he knows that the Border Force are insufficiently resourced to cope with their extra responsibilities? Paul Sawbridge

Vax: Tests trump jabs

Story: Borders upgrade and vaccine certificates confirmed from Monday Lucy Clarke: Not many destinations are even asking for this. They are still wanting a negative Covid test whether you’ve had your vaccine or not.

Travel: Good for the mind

Story: Welsh government advises against non-essential overseas travel Michael Larkin: I think people’s mental health is as good a reason as any [to travel], providing it can be done safely, with rigorous testing.

Story: First 2021 package holidays depart Joy of joys – planes taking people on holidays at last from the UK. To misquote Neil Armstrong, that’s one small step for the UK travel industry, one giant leap for tourism as a whole. Patrick Doyle

Great to see Tui sticking to its guns and flying from several airports to Corfu today. Bravo! That sends a strong message to the DfT and Grant Shapps. Peter Cookson, Spear Travels

Robert Courts MP @robertcourts Brilliant evening watching the virtual naming ceremony for P&O Cruises’ new ship Iona. Always great to see industry giants like P&O leading the charge in reducing emissions.

kerry_l6 @kerrylakey7 Savannah Travel So [business secretary] @KwasiKwarteng just said on @gmb he would follow @MattHancock advice & not book for amber destinations this summer. You are advising people not to travel. If it’s needed, you need to step up and support a sector effectively still closed.

Nick Harding-McKay @HardingMckay Travel Designers Brilliant webinar with @InghamsAgents this morning – thank you Sasha and the @TTNG_Marketing team – very inspirational!
