Adam Stewart @AdamStewart Sandals Welcome back home, Dad. For his final flight home, our pilots flew low along the north coast of Jamaica. From the shores, our team members got to salute their leader from our beaches this one last time.

Bourne Leisure: Rejection of trade channel splits opinion
Special Report: Why do some travel brands stop selling through the trade? Richard Slater: [In Bourne Leisure Group’s case] it’s because of small trade sales; because some graduate told the board everyone books direct; because millions of pounds have been spent well on sponsored links and traditional media; and because commission is seen as poor value, even though agents’ revenue per booking is probably higher and their upsell better. Bourne will be back.

Gemma Vincent: To be fair, [Bourne’s decision] makes sense, as frustrating as it is. I’ve booked the occasional Bourne break for customers. But in this past year, with most high street agencies having had to close their doors numerous times, it’s probably made it more difficult for Bourne to manage refunds and the like and achieve customer satisfaction. It’s meant their staff have had to deal not only with their own bookings but also with our trade bookings while we haven’t been able to help.

Cruise: Dingle deserves praise for flagging threat to our sector
Story: UK cruise sector ‘will shrink’ without FCDO advice change At last, a senior and hugely respected figure [Carnival UK chairman David Dingle] in cruising and UK government corridors actually saying it how it is. This is what we need to hear and it’s time to stop pussyfooting around. Cruising is not a destination; it is a means of transportation and it is safe. It is unprecedented to be in this position and totally unfair. We need to turn the heat up and everyone has to play their part in the cruise industry. Bravo, David. Neil Sealy @Neil_Sealy Exsus Travels Feeling very upbeat about travel after a fantastic @AitoAgents conference today. So much positivity in the ‘room’, which gives me confidence that this resilient industry will grab the bull by the horns when travel resumes, despite the beating we’ve taken!
only helpful in part Story: Agents say latest lockdown grants are not enough We’re certainly grateful for grants/ furlough etc, but our industry has been closed for ‘business’ by never-before-enacted government decisions. [Grants] only go part of the way to assisting our costs. Martin Founds, Anglers World Holidays
