The timeframe for new PTRs is far too tight
Story: Travlaw Big Tent 2018 The government is living in cloud cuckoo land if it thinks it can give the industry just three months to get everything in place for the new Package Travel Regulations. This law will fundamentally change the way many businesses operate. The industry needs to say ‘No’ to the government. At the very least we should demand a delay on implementation until January 2019. This is not the time for the industry to keep quiet.

Story: ‘Blokey culture holding back women in travel’ A diverse leadership team is not just better for business, it provides a true representation of the customers we market and sell to. We all have a responsibility to deliver diverse leadership teams for the future, to create environments in which all people thrive.

I’d rather sail on P&O Cruises’ smaller ships
Story: P&O orders second ship I have been on the bigger P&O ships like Britannia but prefer Azura because the atmosphere is much friendlier. Anything over 4,000 passengers is too big.

Airlines should revert to metal not plastic cutlery
Story: Vivid Travel to impose levy on airlines that use plastic Every day, airlines use 75 tonnes of plastic on inflight services (knives, forks, spoons, wrapping etc). This is crazy. They need to start using metal cutlery again!

Helen Roberts @HelenRoberts3 (Kuoni) Absolutely loved working with Eddie Starkie. The most unforgettable and legendary character I’ve ever met in my career.
David Speakman @DavidSpeakman1 Cynical operators give travel a bad name charging for something [sunbeds] that should be free. Bad profit.
CLIA Global @CLIAGlobal “Travel is the antidote to ignorance and the more people cruise the world, the more the world becomes a better place” – Arnold Donald
QUOTE OF THE
WEEK
“We forensically scrutinise every claim now. If we think a claim is fraudulent, we won’t pay it. We
would rather take our chances in court”

If hotels had sufficient sunbeds, everyone could roll up when they wish. Many Greek hoteliers have realised that sufficient sunbeds mean they can get staff selling beers etc instead of policing the sunbeds. SUNBED QUEEN
Personally I think €25 per bed is way too steep, but if Cook can get away with it, then good on them! IAN LEONARD Travel Weekly welcomes a response from Thomas Cook

Reaction to Cook’s sunbed plan
Story: Thomas Cook to let holidaymakers pre-book their sunbeds As a family, I would consider paying for this as I’m sick of having to battle to get a sunbed. Thomas Cook should be applauded for allowing customers these options. INDIE AGENT
