P&O seeks trade support as it orders another ship

P&O Cruises has pledged to work more closely with agents to broaden its client base as it prepares to increase capacity by 22% in the next four years.


The operator last week announced plans to launch a second next-generation ship in 2022, two years after a similar sister ship is due to enter service. Alex White, P&O Cruises’ vice-


president of sales, said the launch of a second ship was a “fantastic recognition” of the line’s faith in the travel trade to sell its cruises. The 5,200-passenger capacity


vessel, powered by liquefied natural gas, will increase P&O’s fleet to nine ships and increase its overall capacity by 22%. White said: “This decision demonstrates confidence in the P&O brand and the success of the UK trade and the role it has played over the last few years. “While this is fantastic news

Our job is to put cruise in their psyche.” The new ship is part of a fleet- wide enhancement strategy, with 19 new vessels set for delivery across Carnival Corporation brands between 2018 and 2022. White was speaking after


Carnival Corporation’s UK Cruise Awards, at which agents were recognised for their support.


Cruise 1st’s Goodwin to run marathon in aid of Phab Kids charity


Travel agent Peter Goodwin is taking on the London Marathon in April in aid of children’s charity Phab Kids. The charity supports children


with disabilities and gives them access to adventure days across the UK, among other activities. Goodwin, 43, a homeworker for


Cruise 1st, has run the marathon in the capital once before, in 2009. “Nine years later I’m quite a bit


heavier,” he said. “But training’s going well and I’m gradually increasing the distances of my runs. Goodwin aims to raise £2,000. He hopes a cruise line or tour
