NEWS ROUND-UP IN THE PICTURE: Cassie funeral

Hundreds of friends and family gathered for the funeral of Tui agent Cassie Hayes, who was killed last month. Cassie, 28, was attacked on January 13 while working

at Tui’s Southport branch in Merseyside. Her funeral was held in her home town of Alnwick,

Northumberland, last Friday. The mother of one was buried alongside her father, Michael, who died of cancer in 2004. Mourners all wore an item of yellow clothing, her favourite colour. After a private ceremony the procession followed

on to a celebration of Cassie’s life at Alnwick Gardens. Cassie’s Tui colleagues made an emotional tribute. An industry fundraising campaign in memory of

Cassie has reached £7,480. The money will go to her family. Andrew Burke, 30, of St Helens, Merseyside, has been charged with her murder.

Advantage Travel Partnership has taken over the management of Northern Ireland-based Consort Travel Group.

Advantage will organise training

events, tailor-make commercial deals with suppliers, offer one-to- one business support and arrange meetings for agency members. Consort was formed in 1985 and is made up of 16 independent travel agency businesses with 31 shops across Northern Ireland. All agencies are existing

individual members of Advantage Travel Partnership. The Consort group became an Advantage member in its own right in 2012, but the management was overseen by its board members. The decision to hand over management to Advantage, which has been agreed for an initial five-year term, was prompted by members needing to focus more on their own businesses. Sandra Corkin, managing

director and owner of Oasis Travel and a Consort member, said: “All of the board members have their own businesses to run, plus there is more to do now with all the new

legislation coming in. Organising meetings and dinners takes time so it’s great that it will all now be taken care of.” Advantage business

development consultant Sarah Miller will be the main point of contact for Consort and has been tasked with identifying members’ requirements and putting together a programme of activity. Advantage’s in-house events

team will oversee bespoke training days, and workshops on social media and developing product knowledge. The Consort board will remain in place as an advisory board.

The record sales come less than six months

after hurricanes battered parts of the Caribbean and follow the launch of the operator’s peak sales campaign. Lisa McAuley, managing director of dnata Travel B2B Europe, said: “It is incredibly reassuring to see [these] figures for the Caribbean.” Demand was up by 38% year on year for Africa and 36% for the Oceania region. Pure Luxury also reported agent sales were up by more than 20%.
