here are two big stories in the contract catering sector this week. The first, of course, is the acquisition of CH&Co

by Compass, but we also can’t ignore the courage and determination shown by Genuine Dining Co’s Chris Mitchell and Robbie Laidlaw, who completed their row across the Atlantic this week. Rumours of the CH&Co Group deal had

been circulating for some time, but they were only whispers until this weekend, when it was confirmed that the UK’s largest contract caterer was swallowing up a busi- ness that had been steadily growing since the merger of Host and CH&Co in 2015. Since then, CH&Co Group has brought

the likes of Brookwood Partnership, Har- bour & Jones, Gather & Gather, Vach- erin, Blue Apple and Pabulum under its umbrella, so its safe to say that Compass has secured some significant talent to bolster its business. Talent that must also be celebrated this

week is the Spirit of Hospitality team of Mitchell and Laidlaw. The pair have just completed a 3,000-mile row from the Canary Islands to Antigua in aid of Hospi- tality Action. Not only did the pair finish the challenge,

raising significant funds for the charity, they came in fifth overall in what has been dubbed the world’s toughest row, and were the first of the pairs to finish. It’s an immense achievement and one worthy of all of our support. So, if you haven’t already, head to the Spirit of Hospi- tality Instagram page (@spirit_of_hospitality) to donate.
