DOMOTEX SHOW TIME

WELCOME Italian style, state-of-the-art facilities, a strong and innovative

exhibitor base. Just add visitors and we have an amazing event to look forward to in many ways, This edition will explain why

Words | Richard Burton, Editor Photography | Domotex

Such is the diversity of DOMOTEX, it stands to reason that it’s going to mean diff erent things to diff erent people. Many will be there looking for sales, others for collaborations, many as buyers, and others simply for inspiration. And weaved into that will be a high number who will be looking forward to the social elements such gatherings are known for. That comes through, not so much in the detail of participants’ feedback, but the enthusiasm with which it is delivered. As a seasoned visitor to international complexes, I know too well the abiding impressions each leaves, often for months afterwards. It may be vivid imagery, gleaming machinery or the lingering smells of herbs and spices. But at DOMOTEX, it is, above all, one of colour and texture, something many visitors reference repeatedly after each show; be they in Germany or any other country where the brand is present. This year, you can expect a bonus: given that Italy has been chosen as the debut area for an event to be defi ned with a country focus. It’s a strong choice given that it is recognised as a worldwide trendsetter

and leader in design and exerts such a powerful infl uence on global opinion. Think of names such as Achille Castiglioni and Gio Ponti and you’ll get the idea. As for this edition, it’s a little

diff erent too, coming as it does a little earlier than usual. That’s because it’s very much a preview magazine, ahead of a printed Visitor Guide available to all those coming through the barriers in January. Here, we will stay true to our philosophy that there’s more to the fl oor and, quite literally, drill down to look at subterranean storage options as well as, excuse the pun, a deep examination of the importance of the sector in the interior design process. Added to that, we look at sports surfaces with a ride around velodromes. But for now, we look forward to you doing some investigations of your own. After all, as Castiglioni once said of interior design: “If you’re not curious, forget it!”
