DOMOTEX INTERVIEW

SIX QUESTIONS FOR SONIA WEDELL-CASTELLANO, GLOBAL DIRECTOR OF DOMOTEX, HANNOVER

LOOKING AHEAD

It’s been a busy summer for the team in Hannover, given the impetus needed to close one show and prepare for another with several international events to support throughout the year

DOMOTEX WORLD: It’s positive to note that many of the leading brands have committed their support. What does that mean to you? Sonia Wedell-Castellano: We are fl ooring enthusiasts and extremely passionate about what we do. Every single member of my team, all of us, we simply love our job and the community. I believe when we approach potential exhibitors, they can pick up on our excitement and trust us to organise and stage an amazing event for people

who share a passion: every registration is proof that our approach is well received and convinces brands to join us as exhibitors. Their commitment is not only an important gesture for us as

organisers, but also for the entire industry. The more top-class brands communicate their participation, the more companies will sign up as exhibitors, which will attract more visitors.

DW: It’s also good to note the high level of decision-making attendees. Are you aware of how that manifests itself in terms of business? SWC: Indeed, the quality of visitors at the show is outstanding as we continue to be the most important trade, innovation, and trend platform in the industry, with an impressive 80 per cent share of decision- makers. They come with specifi c intentions: to do business and expand business relationships. As determined by a visitor survey audited by FKM, around half of the decision-makers place orders with exhibiting companies during their stay at the fairgrounds. Additionally, around 50 per cent of our visitors place orders after DOMOTEX.

DW: Sustainability has been a regular theme. How much more work is there to do on this – or will it ever be fi nished? SWC: In a world where resources are becoming scarcer, the design of our living spaces is becoming more relevant than ever

for our

industry. Floor coverings made from asparagus husks, circular economy solutions for old carpets and rugs, intelligent materials – sustainability is moving the industry in many diff erent ways right now. Likewise, many of our DOMOTEX

exhibitors are already developing, producing and selling unique and sustainable innovations. To anyone interested in sustainability in the carpet and fl ooring industry. I recommend dropping by our special display THE GREEN COLLECTION. Here you can fi nd extraordinary presentations and innovative products, current research projects, a haptic material show as well as an inspiring conference program
