he statistic that the UK is facing an estimated shortfall of fi ve billion litres of water per day by  is as damning as it is well documented. n eptember , it was revealed that plans to build almost , new homes are currently being bloced by concerns over inadeuate wastewater infrastructure wo months later, research found that water scarcity could hamper the s ability to reach its net zero targets.

Households are facing eponentially rising utility bills, though the onus to cut consumption cannot fall solely on them. This comes at a time when the overnment is eploring whether the uilding egulations  should be amended to tighten water effi ciency standards, enabling customers to use less water and reduce both water and energy bills


he consultation is looing to reshape how new housing developments are built to be more water effi cient, mandating tighter limits on per capita consumption and encouraging the wider adoption of water reuse systems  supporting complementary sustainable technologies such as solar panels and heat pumps. ut all this aside, and the fact that it has never been more important to reduce both water and energy consumption still remains. What is the starting point?


SIMPLE YET SIGNIFICANT As the largest domestic consumer of water, showers are an obvious target for reducing consumption. While electric showers are nown for their energy effi ciency, their watersaving potential is eually signifi cant y heating water on demand from the cold mains supply, electric showers remove the need to run taps while awaiting hot water  one of the most common sources of waste.


Electric showers tend to operate at lower fl ow rates than mier showers, saving around  litres of water per shower without rising comfort hese features combine to mae them an ideal solution for housebuilders where new homes are reuired to be more water


effi cient than the optional uilding egulations standard of  litres per person per day (l/p/d).
