DESIGNING FOR SITE-SPECIFIC CHALLENGES


No two development sites are the same, which means drainage strategies must be tailored to the specifi c characteristics of each project. Factors like soil permeability and whether sites are brownfi eld in nature, or have any existing drainage infrastructure, all infl uence the most appropriate SuDS strategy. For example, sites with permeable ground conditions may benefi t from infi ltrationbased solutions, while more constrained or impermeable sites may require attenuation and controlled discharge solutions. Space restrictions on smaller housing developments can also mae belowground solutions particularly attractive, allowing developers to maximise sites without compromising drainage performance. This is particularly valuable on highdensity schemes where every square metre of usable land contributes to overall project value. By assessing these variables early, and working collaboratively with manufacturers, developers can identify solutions that are not only technically effective, but also commercially viable and easier to install.


SUPPORTING LONG-TERM PROJECT VIABILITY


There’s often a perception that SuDS increase upfront project costs. However, focusing only on initial expenditure risks overlooing the wider, longerterm value that these systems can provide.
