! Stuck in Salou

98

Unit 17 | Recount 2

Dear Auntie Mary,

Firstly, you will be glad to now that I am still alive, but only just! I am enduring the second wee of the holiday from hell. According to the brochure, the resort in Salou was supposed to be a sunny, sensuous, sandy resort with ample activities for children and a supreme state-of-the-art swimming pool. Well, let me tell you about the events that have unfolded since our arrival.

To begin with, our flight was delayed by six hours. When we finally landed, we collected our luggage but noticed that Dad’s suitcase was drenched. Orange juice had lea ed all over his clothes (he has been wearing some of Mum’s which has been a little bit funny). Next, we travelled by coach with freezing air conditioning to the resort, which explains my head cold. Upon chec -in, we were led to our secluded apartment which smelled really musty. Just as I was about to hop into bed, the bed literally started hopping! Coc roaches! The place was infested.

The following morning, after a fumigation of our apartment, we decided to ma e the most of things and head to the pool. Loaded with our beach towels and blow-up beds, our smiles soon turned to frowns as we encountered a tiny pool covered in gooey green stuff! Could this holiday get any worse? Surely our luc was about to change! Nope – it started to rain!

Not just a little drizzle but a full-on hurricane! So we have been confined to our atrocious apartment for over a wee now with tasteless food from the local supermercado and nothing but a dec of cards for entertainment. Mum says she hopes the cat is having a better time at home with you and that one thing is for sure, we will be staying at home next summer!

Loo ing forward (no really, really loo ing forward) to seeing you soon (3 days, 4 hours, 6 minutes and 40 seconds),

Love, your suffering niece, Nancy x
