UKLA President’s Report
I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed as the UKLA President following the AGM in September.
I have been actively involved with the Trade Association since I fi rst joined the industry in 1998, and have been on the board since 2011. The UKLA has evolved enormously during my career thus far, improving services and benefi ts to members year on year, the Past Presidents have been a real driving force behind these improvements, a trend I hope to continue, with their support and that of the Board of Directors and of course the members.
The AGM also saw some other changes to the Board of Directors (BoDs) with Past President, John Alton and Vice President Mike Swiney, stepping down from the board after many years of valued service.
On behalf of the BoDs I would like to thank them for the huge contribution they have made to the Trade Association and I wish them well for the future.
Following the departures of John and Mike I am pleased to announce that Andrew Goddard of Morris Lubricants and Marc Smith of Total have agreed to join the BoDs. I look forward to working with Andrew and Marc. The UKLA continues to work hard on many initiatives. VLS has recently published its fi rst case fi ndings. With more cases under review the industry now has a vehicle to uphold the required standards to protect consumers and
UEIL President’s Report Dear Lube Magazine Readers,
I wrote last time to you over the summer holidays – I hope you enjoyed them and got back home energised for the next couple of months!
UEIL was working throughout the summer to prepare the UEIL 2014 Annual Congress. Did you already take a look at the online networking tool that UEIL set-up for this year’s congress delegates? Go to the UEIL website events’ section and take advantage of it – fi nd out who is attending and contact friends, colleagues and business partners before/ throughout the event in the most effective way!
I am very much looking forward to this year’s event, which turned out to have various sessions focused on the future of our industry. I am particularly looking forward to listening to the inspiring intervention from Ray Hammond. One of the most experienced futurologists in the world, Mr. Hammond will take a look at what’s to come and share insights on how we can prepare for it.
I would like to inform you as well that UEIL held its Board of Directors and Committee meetings in September. The Technical and Competition Committees defi ned new and tougher strategies towards competition violations in the
the UK lubes industry as a whole. UKLA seminars will continue, with Social Media next on the agenda. Demand for tickets to our annual functions continue to grow and I look forward to seeing you at the annual dinner on the 5th of November, hopefully my speech does not generate too many fi reworks!
Back to the day to day, I am sure you are well aware that ACEA 2012 comes into effect on oils produced and marketed from the 22nd of December 2014. The VLS website provides an excellent summary on what this means and what you need to do to be compliant. I would also like to announce that with the ongoing concern relating to waste management (WM2) and the new Environment Agency guidelines, UKLA are holding a half day seminar on 19th of November at the National Motorcycle Museum- Solihull. Details of the waste seminar are currently being circulated for those interested.
In closing, the UKLA exists for its members, if you want to have input in the direction of UKLA we need members to engage so please feel free to contact me and do just that (

interest of protecting our industry from market abuses, while the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Committee worked to confi rm their latest study on skin and eye irritation threshold for ionic mixtures. I would like to thank Federchimica for having offered its Milan offi ces for the HSE Committee meeting to take place.
Athens hosted the GEIR General Meeting in September. GEIR Members got together to discuss (amongst others) the BAT (Best Available Techniques) Reference Document (BREF) on Waste Treatment Industries and ways GEIR can and will contribute to it. I would like to thank Cyclon Hellas for having received the GEIR Members on the occasion of this meeting.
For any questions regarding the above, do not hesitate to contact us at

Sincerely
Fabio Dalla Giovanna UEIL President
