Millbrook Announces Multi-Million Pound Investment New facility will enable the development of advanced technology and vehicles of the future

Millbrook, one of Europe’s leading design, test and engineering solution providers for the automotive, public transport, energy and defence markets, has announced its plans to build a state-of-the-art four wheel drive chassis dynamometer test cell at its 700 acre proving ground in Bedfordshire.

Following the award of a £1.95 million Government grant in April 2014, the world-renowned test and technology facility has been moving forward with its plans, which will ensure it is the UK’s leading location for research and development in advanced propulsion and emissions reduction.

The new facility will enable Millbrook’s customers to develop innovative ways of improving air quality, focussing heavily on hybridisation, electrification and the development of less polluting fuels.

The four wheel drive chassis dyno will ensure tests are carried out in a climate controlled environment, with appropriate instrumentation for gathering highly accurate emissions and fuel measurements.

Millbrook is currently seeking professional architectural services to assist with the design and construction of this high-tech

Fuel saving proven with new

CV Euro 6 oil Millbrook testing ground for new Exol Taurus FE 5W-30 engine oil

Exol Lubricants has introduced a new, fuel saving, commercial vehicle engine oil, which has undergone extensive testing at the Millbrook vehicle test and development facility, with the results proving it can provide long term savings on a typical fleet operator’s fuel bill.

The fully synthetic Taurus Euro FE 5W-30 engine oil was tested in two types of bus, a Cummins ISB4.5 powered 2013 Wrightbus Streetlife and, a Volvo D7 powered 2005 Volvo B7RLE.

facility, and recently held a supplier day for 40 potential contributors to the project.

Alex Burns, chief executive of Millbrook explains: “Millbrook is leading the way in automotive innovation and this new facility will help to cement our position as the UK’s number one facility for benchmarking and developing the most advanced powertrains for future vehicles.

“Our recent supplier day was the initial step in getting this exciting project off the ground. We felt that having a number of potential partners collaborating in one

room was the ideal solution in terms of gathering information, building strong foundations for the project and sharing best practice.

“We are thrilled to be starting the New Year with an initiative that looks set to change the future of the automotive industry, and look forward to updating you on our progress throughout the year.”

Both vehicles were put through lengthy and varied driving cycles designed to mimic urban and rural environments with both stop-start and constant speed conditions.

Sophisticated fuel consumption analysis showed that the buses - when running with Taurus Euro FE 5W-30 engine oil - saved an average of nearly two percent fuel compared with the same buses carrying out the same driving cycles with a conventional 15W-40 engine oil.

In addition to fuel saving, Taurus Euro FE 5W-30 offers other key benefits for a wide range of applications including: Compatibility with after-treatment devices including diesel particulate filters, long drain formulation, low oil consumption, outstanding anti-wear protection and excellent cold starting properties.

Taurus Euro FE 5W-30 is ideally suited for use in the very latest Euro 6 emission engines and is backwards compatible to older models. It is particularly recommended for use in commercial vehicles by MAN, DAF, Iveco, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Renault.

Steve Dunn, Exol Sales Director, said: “At Exol, we put our products through the most stringent of tests, all of which are designed to demonstrate their quality and the benefits they deliver to customers on a daily basis. Taurus Euro FE 5W-30 is the perfect choice for a typical heavy duty fleet operator running a range of vehicle types and ages and who wishes to reduce fuel costs.”
