UEIL Annual Congress Madrid, Spain 22-24 October 2014
Report from Congress – Rod Pesch, Director General UKLA
This year the UEIL Congress took place in Madrid, a truly beautiful city an excellent venue and excellent weather to see it by.
Prior to the main agenda I attended the General Assembly meeting where we were warmly welcomed by our president Fabio Dalla Giovanna. This was the necessary business end for UEIL and where we covered all of the essential activities carried out on behalf of and relevant to all stakeholders of the European Lubricants Industry. Having satisfactorily concluded the Assembly, the next item on the agenda was the Welcome Dinner which had a very good attendance and officially started the networking opportunities.
On day two the main programme was opened; again by Fabio who welcomed all delegates as well as the speakers and went on to briefly outline the programme for Congress. Fabio then introduced Ray Hammond the Congress’s keynote
speaker. Ray Hammond started off by describing himself as a futurologist, a statement which did initially have us all guessing. It transpired that Ray, in fact, is recognised as being Europe’s most experienced, most successful and most widely published non-fictional futurologist! Ray went on to talk about the eight key driving elements of the future – with special focus on technological developments and the potential for the lubricants’ industry. In all a very thought provoking session.
