2014 UKLA Annual Dinner
The Lubricants Industry’s most Prestigious Networking Event of the Year SPONSORS:
The UKLA Annual dinner is the highlight of the industry calendar and yet again didn’t fail to impress. The venue was once more the prestigious Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London and the date was of course that first Wednesday in November, this year falling on the 5th.
Over 300 representatives of the UK lubricants industry began the evening networking with friends and colleagues alike during the champagne reception before entering the beautifully decorated ball room for excellent food, wine and company.
As ever, on these occasions UKLA would like to thank all our sponsors for their generous support. This year’s headline sponsors were Cosan and Comma Oil & Chemical who also provided the table gifts. Meade, King – Robinson and Petronas once more co-sponsored the Guest Speaker and Reynolds Logistics the Dinner Programme. The Presidents Reception was sponsored by ABN Resource and Exol Lubricants kindly sponsored the General Reception. Other Sponsors included BASF, Multisol and Anderol, with Infineum sponsoring the UKLA President’s Award.
UKLA President, Simon Brander this year nominated a Presidents Charity for his term in office. His chosen charity is Claire House Children’s Hospice, based on the Wirral. Claire House provides support for children and their families who have life limiting conditions. It costs the hospice £6,500 per day to
run, the aim is to raise this much over the year and ‘Pay for a Day’. Monies were raised by way of donations and a raffle; prizes included an IPad, a weekend stay at The Queens Hotel, Leeds, Champagne and Rugby League tickets.
As a former winner of the award, the President said it gave him enormous pleasure to present the 2014 Young Employee of the Year Award to Karolina Lapszewicz, Millers Oils. Now a Production Coordinator, Karolina, a graduate in Business Studies from Huddersfield, came to Millers in 2010 as a bottle filler. Her diligent attitude and aptitude meant that she quickly became promoted to Operations Administrator and again to Production Coordinator. She has absorbed the role of coordinating training for the whole operations team, as well as taking responsibility for the H & S training for the whole of Millers staff. Still only 27 and with only four years of service, Karolina has become a valuable and well liked member of the Millers team.
The Special Award of Council is not given out every year but only when there is a deserving recipient. As a diligent, approachable and ever supportive member of the UKLA Board and in particular the Secretariat from 2005 until 2014; Mike Swiney was awarded the UKLA Special Award of Council.
The 2014 UKLA President’s Award, sponsored by Infineum, went to John Alton, Morris Lubricants. John has been part of the UKLA for many years, serving as a Board Director of the
