This month in Lube magazine we lead on a feature on Automotive Passenger Car Engine Oil. There is no doubt the automotive market has been rapidly evolving and the manufacturers/additive companies and government must work alongside to meet the changing consumer preferences, regulations and market need for products that meet environmental and consumer protections standards whilst promoting sustainability.
As Europe transitions to a net zero economy, the phasing out of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to electric and hybrid vehicles brings its own challenges. In response to lobbying by Germany, the Czech Republic and others, the EU Commission has granted a dispensation to ICEs running on synthetic or e-fuels from its ban in 2035. Although the European Parliament will still have to vote on the matter.
Electrification will affect all of the automotive sector and associated sectors such as motorsport is already reflecting these changes. Read about Shell’s partnering with Nissan in Formula E on Page 9 in Taking lessons from racetrack to road from Leonard Kieckebusch of Shell Lubricants.
Packaging & Logistics is the way we bring our products to market and communicate both technical specifications and product performance claims to our customers. The regulations governing packaging are enshrined in the EU Classification of Labelling & Packaging regulation, itself part of the UN Globally Harmonised System or GHS. In this issue Dr Srđan Sokolović of Sowa Solutions discusses Ecolabeling and recycling of lubes packaging for a greener environment Page 13, while on Page 25, Dr Sylvia Kerscher of FoxInsights discusses how operational logistics costs can be reduced through data-based order management.

Finally, Lube magazine is pleased to announce our conference on Succession and Sustainability will take place on the 18th October in London with a welcome drinks reception on the evening of the 17th October. Ensuring the lubricants sector not only survives but thrives in the decades ahead depends upon our ability to attract and retain the best talent while embracing sustainability as a key corporate strategy in response to a changing political and economic environment. You can read more about our conference on Page 37 and we look forward to welcoming you to our event in the autumn.
