? Guest of Honour Pavilion, Main Stage (Forum, Level 1)
14 16th October 2019
Arguably the biggest beast of the more than 100 authors from Guest of Honour country Norway appearing at FBF 2019 is Karl Ove Knausgaard. The intensit of the being one of the world’s hotest literary sensations might have cooled a bit since he released the sixth and last of his relentlessly autobiographical, fêted and sometimes controversial Min Kamp (My Struggle) novels (the final volume appeared in English in 2018), but Knausgaard is still Norway’s most recognisable international writing export this side of Jo Nesbø, having had his books translated into over 35 languages. The author takes the stage with FBF director Juergen Boos, a longtime Knausgaard “stan” who has said he had been trying to get the writer to appear at FBF for many years. The two are scheduled to discuss the art of autobiographical fiction, but are certain to touch on So Much Longing in So Little Space, Knausgaard’s recently published look at another favourite son of Norway, the painter Edvard Munch.
