Lottie Brooks sells a lotta books: Katie Kirby takes the top spot
Kirby is officially the coolest kid in the playground, while Douglas and Nicholls vie for second and third place

he latest book in Katie Kirby’s Lottie Brooks series has debuted straight at the top of the Official UK
Top 50, according to data from NielsenIQ BookData’s Total Consumer Market (TCM). The author-illustrator’s Lottie
Brooks vs the Ultra Mean Girls has sold 23,497 copies in its first week, pushing Kirby to the overall top spot for the second time – and the fifth time in the prime spot of the Children’s Top 20. It has sold 12% more than the first week of The Majorly Awkward BFF Dramas of Lottie Brooks, her previous title
in the series, which topped the TCM charts back in 2024. The Lottie Brooks series recently
passed the one-million-copies-sold mark through the TCM, and with the £194,299 accrued by the newest instalment in its first week, more than £7m has now been spent on the pre-teen’s diaries since they were first published in 2021. In a seven-day period that has
seen a large number of new releases – 15 titles in the Top 50 were published in the first week of July – Kirby is only one of two children’s new releases making a mark in the charts, alongside the paperback edition of Jamie Smart’s Bunny vs
Monkey: The Great Big Glitch, which has shifted 3,468 copies in its first week. It is far from Smart’s biggest debut – Bunny vs Monkey: Multiverse Mix-Up! sold 4,518 units at launch in January 2023 – but it is an increase of 15% compared with the first week of January 2025’s Bunny vs Monkey: Bunny Bonanza. The previous TCM number
one, Claire Douglas’ The New Neighbours, packs up its belong- ings and moves one door down to second place in the TCM Top 50, following a 23.4% fall in sales. Douglas’ 16,991-unit sales are enough to keep her atop the Mass Market Fiction (MMF) chart for the third consecutive week, this time just 567 copies ahead of her nearest rival, the paperback release of David Nicholls’ You Are Here. Nicholls’ sixth novel – and his
first new paperback since 2019’s Sweet Sorrow – has sold 16,424 copies in just three days, moving nearly 10,000 more units than its predecessor in its first week.
