Event Beijing International Book Fair in pictures T 32

he 31st Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) had a spike in visitor and exhibitor numbers and a corresponding rise in done deals, while artificial intelligence (AI)

and tech dominated discussions in conferences and seminars. More than 1,700 exhibitors from 80 countries

attended BIBF 2025, a rise of 7% and 12%, respec- tively, on 2024. Additionally, nearly 300,000 visitors – professional and public combined – attended the five-day event, which concluded on 22nd June. BIBF reported that 2,826 copyright agree-

ments and memorandums of understanding (MOU) were signed by exhibitors at the fair – 1,955 export and 753 import deals, plus 118

co-publishing MOUs. This represented a “significant increase” on BIBF 2024, which the organisers said “affirmed the fair’s growing stature in global publishing”. Among the deals highlighted by BIBF were

a co-publishing project between DK and China Publishing House on Imperial China; Wiley and Zhejiang University Press signing an MOU for an academic journal collaboration; and Phoenix Publishing and Media inking a co-publishing MOU with the humanities and social sciences publisher Peter Lang. Lin Liying, president of BIBF organisers China

National Publications Import and Export Company, said: “I’m particularly thrilled by how an expanded BIBF 2025 weaved together innovative visual design and more support for

publishers to meet and do business. It was a great platform for books that tell China’s stories and for strengthening global cultural exchange. “From trade halls to academic forums, from

web literature zones to gourmet book bazaars, every element is designed to build a hub for publishing co-operation, cross-cultural dialogue and international promotion. Seeing these threads come together in one event – and knowing the conversations we spark here will resonate long after the fair closes – is truly the highlight of my year.” BIBF signed off 2025 by announcing the dates

for the 32nd fair, which will be held from the 17th to 21st June 2026.
