The sun shines on the reaping: three weeks at the top for Suzanne Collins

The fifth book in the Hunger Games series holds onto first place despite a drop in sales, while it is a strong first week for Elif Shafak

S Week ending 5th April 2025

uzanne Collins has reaped even more rewards by claiming a third week at the top of the Official UK Top 50

with Sunrise on the Reaping, according to the latest data from Nielsen BookScan’s Total Consumer Market (TCM). The fifth book in the Hunger

Games universe sold 23,288 copies, down 40.8% week-on-week, but manages to stay ahead of its nearest rival – Lee and Andrew Child’s In Too Deep. The latest Jack Reacher title keeps hold of second place and has now sold 42,881 copies in its first two weeks

on sale, down 16.5% against the same period for 2024’s The Secret. The Childs’ performance is still

enough to keep it at the top of the Mass-Market Fiction chart, with more than twice the sales of second- placed Elif Shafak’s There Are Rivers in the Sky, which makes its debut paperback appearance with 9,235 copies. An auspicious start for Shafak: her The Island of Missing Trees sold less than half that amount when it was released in April 2022, but has gone on to sell more than a quarter of a million copies. Shafak’s sales were helped by her inclusion in Waterstones’ Book of the Month promotion, and make it

the third-highest new entry of the week, taking the fifth slot in the Top 50 behind Gifted & Talented by Olivie Blake and Where Shadows Meet by Patrice Caldwell, which take third and fourth place thanks to exclusive editions from FairyLoot. The Atlas Complex, Blake’s most

recent novel released in hardback in January 2024, sold 6,505 copies in its first week, with her 2025 offer- ing selling 12,557 copies, a 93% rise. Meanwhile, the special edition of Where Shadows Meet has sold 10,143 units – it is the author’s first time published in hardback, but it completely outstrips her previous YA title A Phoenix First Must Burn, which has only sold 749 copies since being published in 2020. Blake also takes first place in the Original Fiction (OF) Top 20 ahead of Rebecca Yarros’ Onyx Storm, which rises back into second place, despite a 21.4% drop in week-on- week sales. The second biggest new entry in OF is Amelia Ireland’s debut, The Seven O’Clock Club,

Elif Shafak’s There Are Rivers in the Sky has more than doubled the first-week sales of her last book
