Eve of Man could well become the biggest-selling UK-authored YA book of 2018. Though Mr Fletcher recently hit number one with World Book Day title Brain Freeze, it is a personal best for Mrs Fletcher in first- week sales terms, beat- ing 2017’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby by over 5,000 copies. ×

Tony Ross’ latest link-up with David Walliams rocketed to the top of the charts
OR A THIRD month on the trot, Gail Honey- man’s Eleanor Oliphant
is Completely Fine has swiped the Monthly E-Book Ranking number one. The Honeyman continued into April, with The British Book Awards’ Book of the Year shiſting 38,298 digital units in the month.
With a three-month run under its belt, Eleanor Oliphant now matches the reign of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale over summer 2017; it’s quarter- year run is the longest since The Girl on the Train’s domination of the monthly chart in early 2015— though Paula Hawkins’ psycho- logical thriller later returned to the top for several shorter bursts. As Eleanor Oliphant approaches on The Girl on the Train’s record number of weekly e-book pole positions—it’s on 16 weeks, nearing Hawkins’ million-copy- bestseller’s 19—the record for consecutive monthly number ones could also be in its sights. If Honeyman can hang on until the end of June and complete a five-month run, two of Hawk- ins’ records could conceivably be hers.

However, unusually for a number one with a heſty volume, Eleanor Oliphant... did not top the Combined E&P top 10, with the sales power of Lee Child’s The Midnight Line simply too high a mountain for even a sure-footed Oliphant to climb. The 22nd Jack Reacher title may have only charted fourth in April’s chart, with the bulk of
