GTMC GTMC appoints
Adrian Parkes as CEO AVIATION AND BUSINESS TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL Adrian Parkes has been appointed as the new CEO of the GTMC. Parkes takes over the leadership of the organisation later this year, when current CEO Paul Wait leaves to take up another role in the travel industry.
He joins from TMC Clarity where he worked for the last seven years in roles including chief commercial officer for Portman (now Clarity) and director of product and marketing.
Prior to this Parkes worked as VP global sales for Etihad Airways for three years, and held numerous senior roles including sales director and commercial director at BMI (British Midland Airways) for nine years. As CEO of the GTMC, Parkes is charged with continuing to boost member and industry partner numbers, raising awareness of the issues that impact the business travel sector, and ensuring that the GTMC has a high profile among policy makers.

complaints by some European airlines against carriers from the Gulf and “illegal subsidies” from Middle East governments. “We want to ensure that
Europe remains a leader in international aviation, well connected to fast-growing markets, with efficient European skies,” said commissioner for transport Violeta Bulc. “Our actions should deliver concrete benefits for passengers, workers and the aviation industry.”
Aviation package will look at two main competencies – maintaining leadership in international aviation and tackling constraints on growth in European skies.
The proposals, which need to be cleared by European Parliament and Council, will allow European governments to submit complaints about alleged discriminatory practices in non-EU countries. If the EU finds in favour
of the European country submitting the complaint, it can issue financial penalties and could decide to restrict the services that non-EU airlines receive at European airports.

CROSSRAIL’S HEATHROW PLANS THREATENED

THE NEW £15 BILLION CROSSRAIL SERVICE may not stop at Heathrow after a row with the airport’s owners. The High Court will rule whether Crossrail trains should be charged for each time they travel to Heathrow. Crossrail is the new 73-mile development running from London out to the west. The project is building ten new stations and upgrading 30 more and is expected to ease congestion on the crowded London Underground. The airport wants to charge £570 for each train using its track and an operational fee of £107. This could drive
up Crossrail costs by £42 million a year. Heathrow wants to recoup some of the £1 billion it spent on the track 20 years ago. Rail regulator ORR (The Office of Rail
and Road) previously decided Heathrow could not charge trains for using the line. A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport Limited said: “We are committed to increasing public transport to Heathrow and look forward to the arrival of Crossrail in May 2018. We need to ensure that track access charges are fair and are waiting on a ruling from the courts on whether the regulations apply and if so, their correct application to costs.”
